Countertop Installation Steps: Slab Choice, Home Prep and Install

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the initial steps that will be followed during a standard stone countertop installation. From planning out the entire process to budgeting and taking the right measurements, there are a number of tasks to carry out before the actual countertops themselves will be put in place.

At Creative Granite & Design, we’re happy to offer a wide range of granite, quartz and marble countertops, along with many other styles as well. Whether you’re installing countertops on your own or leaving the process to professionals like ours, here are the additional steps that should be taken when a stone countertop installation is being carried out.

Slab Selection

For many clients, the most enjoyable part of the countertop installation process is selecting the slab for the job. This can be a lengthy process, as there are many different surfaces that come into play for any given countertop installation. There are polished, honed and brushed surfaces to consider, along with the color of the stone itself.

This is one area where leaning heavily on the expertise of our professional stone fabricators here at Creative Granite & Design will really pay off. By using our experience when it comes to selecting the right stone for your countertop, we can ensure that you get a product worthy of your kitchen.

Second Measurement

Especially if your first measurement was carried out several weeks or even months prior to the actual countertop installation, now is an excellent time to reevaluate that original measurement. Are you satisfied with where everything is placed? If not, necessary changes can be made at this point.

Home Preparation

Finally, it’s time for actual installation day itself. A major task for this day will be preparing the area where the countertops are to be installed. For many clients, this may mean enlarging the hole for a sink (if one has already been purchased) and installing any such appliances such as faucets or microwaves that will go in place.

If your countertops are being installed by third-party professionals, part of this preparation involves ensuring they have clear, safe access to the area where your countertops are being installed. Also, this is a good time for them to check that they have all of the necessary tools and materials that will be needed throughout the installation process.

The Actual Installation Day

Installation day itself can vary depending on what kind of countertop you’re installing, as well as whether or not you’re having them professionally installed. In general, the installation day will involve unpackaging and laying down your countertops. Our team at Creative Granite & Design ensures that all of our materials are correctly sized before we bring a job site, which means less time trying to make cuts once the actual installation day is underway.
